A historic model—Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Tribute
In 2008 JLC presented two faithful understanding of historic diver’s watches, the Memovox Tribute to Polaris 1965 and also the Memovox Tribute to Polaris 1968, each of which demonstrated extremely popular. For 2011, JLC introduces a re-edition of the 1959 Memovox Deep Sea, realistically named Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea.
The Memovox Deep Sea was the first diver’s watch available through the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. The initial was created in two versions: one for European sports fanatics and yet another for American divers. In homage to the wealthy past, Jaeger-LeCoultre is unveiling a limited-series re-edition of the two 1959 Memovox Deep Sea models. And, as you would expect, the Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea also is available in two versions, each bearing the look of one of the historic versions.
The Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea faithfully replicates the initial model, with the exception of one respect: the stainless steel case continues to be slightly enlarged from 39.8 to 40.5 mm. The case back carries the motif showing up around the 1959 watch, having a frogman encircled by bubbles.
The European model includes a matte black dial with luminescent hour-markers, while its American counterpart is distinguished with a two-tone black/gray execution encircled by an exterior ring composed of a scale with five-minute graduations and just signed “LeCoultre”.
The two versions provide the same functions: hours, minutes, central seconds as well as an alarm. A crown at 2 o’clock serves to wind and hang the alarm, while another at 4 o’clock winds the movement and sets time. Both models are impelled by Memovox Calibre 956, an automatic movement integrating JLC’s latest technological developments and that has shown its reliability through the years. This descendant of the first by hand-wound Memovox calibre beats for a price of 28,800 oscillations each hour and it is endowed having a 45-hour power reserve.
The Memovox tribute to Deep Sea is released in two limited series: 959 recreating the “Jaeger-LeCoultre Classique 1959” meant for the European market and 359 inspired through the “LeCoultre Spécial Amérique 1959”. The final two numbers of every edition echo the birth year of the legendary watch.
And lastly, the watchmakers of the Manufacture have selected to safeguard the dial of the Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea having a Plexiglas watch glass absolutely just like what outfitted the historic models, a detail that connoisseurs will appreciate.
