Zenith Captain Power Reserve for 2014 Review

Early this year, at Basel World 2014, the renowned watchmaker Zenith released a new Zenith Captain Power Reserve watch.

The Captain Power Reserve is available in at $6,500 in stainless steel with the three dial colors. You will find versions in white gold and rose gold too, though at $14,100 they’re greater than two times the cost from the steel versions.

On this Zenith Captain Power Reserve watch, the slim case is 40mm across and admirably thin at 9.25mm. The skinny bezel gives method to a domed sapphire crystal that provides a very obvious look at the dial. It is a little reflective, which may be frustrating in vibrant light, but overall it is extremely clean looking.

Have a look at the back, you receive a nice see that Elite 685 caliber, certainly one of Zenith’s in-house Elite movements. It features a 4 Hz balance and 38 jewels, is just 4.67mm thick, and it has a Zenith-top quality rotor with wide Cotes de Genève stripes. This can be a functional movement that’s finished cleanly, otherwise ornately.

Round the fringe of the dial is really a chapter ring with small Roman numbers and within that are large faceted batons to mark the hrs. The central sword formed hands reflect lots of light and therefore are very readable, as the sub-seconds at 9 o’clock includes a blued steel hand that traverses a properly printed black track. You will find three color possibilities here: silver-tone, black, and (the most popular) gray.

You will also find two complications here. At 2 o’clock may be the namesake power reserve indicator. It utilizes a retrograde hand that moves from 1 o’clock to three o’clock because the power runs lower. It’s labeled “reserve de marche” and uses simple +/- markers to point the direction with three intermediate hash marks to provide you with a feeling of what your location is within the 50 hrs of reserve. Lower at 6 o’clock is a date window that intersects the region in which the dial steps lower – a pleasant touch that ties the dial together.
