Panerai Watches & aBlogtoWatch Southern California Event Recap

On April 28, 2018 aBlogtoWatch invited dozens of guests to visit the new Panerai brand boutique located at the South Coast Plaza shopping center in Costa Mesa. The prestigious shopping destination is among the finest in the region and is home to many of the world’s most popular high-end watch brands, including Panerai. Guests were delighted to be present for the first public unveiling of the new for 2018 Panerai Luminor Base Logo collection, which is a modern recreation of the original Panerai collection debuted by retired Panerai CEO Angelo Bonati. The Luminor Base Logo collection faithfully brings Mr. Bonati’s legacy full circle, and now includes an in-house manually wound Panerai movement.

aBlogtoWatch’s guests came wearing their finest Panerai timepieces as well as other timepieces from all around the Southern California region. aBlogtoWatch personally wishes to thank the many valued community members in Southern California who brought their good taste, personalities, and passion for watches together in the company of Panerai. A warm, special thanks to the Panerai South Coast Plaza staff for their excellent service and hospitality, as well as the larger Panerai North America staff.

The new 45mm steel Radiomir Black Seal 8 Days Acciaio watch as well as also the Radiomir 8 Days Acciaio are even closer in picture to their forebear, with soldered lugs and all the genetic traits of the legacy. What is new here is the incorporation of a hand-wound movement developed by Panerai – P.5000 – having an impressive eight-day power reserve. The Dark Seal model, with a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock (usually reserved for Luminor versions), pays homage to the “Gamma Group” frogmen whose daring underwater assignments wreak havoc on Allied battleships.Panerai has also introduced a brand new Luminor Marina 8 Days Acciaio 44mm stainless steel watch, which shows great fidelity to the original dive watch with its small seconds counter at 9 o’clock, the iconic crown-protecting bridge, and superior water-resistance to 300 metres. Equipped with all the hand-wound P.5000 calibre with an eight-day power reserve, the new Luminor watch features an engraving of the famous Italian frogmen straddled on a submersible torpedo. From time to time, technical developments pose a threat to this current market, leading to actual revolutions. But high-quality mechanical watchmaking has ever managed to resist this and also to relaunch itself again after each catastrophe. The fascination of a mechanical watch has a distinctive added value, and by an enthusiast’s point of view it’s irreplaceable.” Bonati doesn’t feel the brand is jeopardized by inventions like smart watches. “I think the single point in common between luxury watchmaking and also the Apple Watch is your wrist. Mechanical watches are full of passion, emotion, history and tradition — a world of values that technology can’t replace.”

On behalf of the larger aBlogtoWatch team, we look forward to seeing you at an upcoming aBlogtoWatch event in Southern California, or perhaps a city near you.
